PASTOR CHARLES CHARAMBA and wife Olivia are set to headline the 12th edition of the Commissioner-General’s funfair to be held at Morris Depot grounds on September 24. The mammoth musical extravaganza — bringing together the police and the public on song and dance — will also parade the country’s top performers. Other crowd pullers gracing the event include Alick Macheso, Nicholas Zakaria, Freddy “Kapfupi” Manjalima, Suluman Chimbetu and Fungisai Zvakavapano.
But it should be mentioned that all the eyes would be on the Charambas who are known for treating families wherever they perform with their heavenly deliveries. In an interview with H-Metro, chief police spokesperson Wayne Vhudzijena promised a fun-filled event. “It’s going to be a unique day within the police force when we celebrate in dance, music and games as we enjoy with families together.“Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri is the brains behind the annual event aimed at raising funds to help the underprivileged children and families that the commissioner has identified. “However, it will be a day of social interaction and joy and we invite people to come and enjoy with their families.” He said this year’s edition will be spiced up with the inauguration of Miss Commissioner-General Funfair.
“A number of ladies in the police force and civilians will battle it out on stage as they contest for the Miss Funfair contest. “The Miss Funfair contest will be happening for the first time and it’s another way to add variety to our entertainment line up. “Top musicians like Macheso, Kapfupi, Fungisai, ZRP police band, Baba and Mai Charamba, Sulu, Dhewa and many others will also entertain revellers. “It will be an all night party and people should enjoy in peace. “The gates will be opened at 8am and tickets for children will be going for US$2 whilst those for adults are pegged at US$4,” he added.
