THE TOP BRASS at Orchestra Mberikwazvo yesterday lived to their word after they successfully organised a timely double with Tongai Moyo to be held at their fortress of Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex. The gig will be held on FRIDAY and Tryson Chimbetu provides cover to the two stalwarts of sungura — Tongai Moyo and Alick Macheso.
Orchestra Mberikwazvo chief spokesperson William Tsandukwa confirmed the gig saying they were behind Dhewa who is fighting the recurrence of his non hogkins cancer. “We have decided to fulfill our pledge and assist Dhewa in a unique way. “Macheso, Dhewa and Tryson will alternate under one roof and it’s just a way of assisting him and ensure he gains confidence even if he is unwell.
“Dhewa requires a lot of money for his medication and we have opted to carry the burden with him. “The profits will be shared equally amongst the performing artistes. “We opted to involve Macheso and Tryson who still have the energy to rock throughout the night,” he said. Tsanduka also urged the public to show up in numbers and support their artistes.
The gig was planned for a noble cause. “We urge music lovers to come and have fun with their beloved musicians. “We are hoping to raise a descent amount to cover up for Tongai’s medical expenses,” he added. On the other hand, Dhewa conceded that fellow artistes have been supportive to him.
He recently saluted Orchestra Kings boss for taking a leading role. “I am happy with the help that I am getting from my fellow friends and musicians. “Sulu stood by me recently when he performed for more hours than mine because my situation was bad. “Macheso’s management is also planning similar gigs for me,” said Dhewa
