Macheso fans to wait a little longer for new Album

Fans of popular sungura music star Alick Macheso have to wait a little bit longer for his new album as the singer is still working on the release. William Tsandukwa, Macheso’s manager told the Daily News that while Macheso had new songs, he had not recorded them yet.

“Yes, he has new songs, but to say that he is working on a new album is taking it a bit too far. He does play new songs at his shows and maybe that is why fans are already thinking that he is recording,” said Tsandukwa. He said it was a bit too early to talk about any Macheso recording “because we just have to wait for him to announce it himself.”The sungura star, who has been in the limelight for his musical prowess as well as his controversial lifestyle, was hit by piracy in his current album. Macheso was forced to go back into the studio and re-mix the album after most of his popular hits on the album Zvinoda Kutendwa were pirated before release.

Before its release, it was already being played in public transport while people had it on their phones. The talented Charakupa hitmaker had his master allegedly played to friends of his brother in-law, who had picked it from the musician when erroneously left at his second wife’s home. Macheso emerged onto the music scene as part of the band the Khiama Boys.

In the late 90s he decided to go solo and formed his current band, Orchestra Mberikwazvo. He rose from the shadows of his mentor Nicholas Zakaria to record Magariro (1998) and Vakiridzo(1999), the offerings credited with catapulting to the top where he became popular as evidenced by Simbaradzo, his third album which sold a record 350 000 copies. His fourth album Zvakanaka Zvakadaro (2001) sold 100 000 copies in the first week of release. Since then, Macheso has been driving towards the apex of music sales breaking own records.
