Alexio to grace Jazz 105’s Viceroy Night

Urban grooves singer Alexio Kawara will entertain audiences today at Harare’s popular joint Jazz 105. Alexio will grace the Jazz 105 concert dubbed Viceroy Night. Jazz 105 manager Yassin Dhala said the Viceroy Night concept is branded to promote the alcohol brand which will be sold at half price. 

“As a club we have put together promotional synergies that rhyme with a particular theme. This also helps musicians as they perform under various brands, hence our club’s collaboration with notable companies,” said Yassin. The manager said Alexio was not new to the club and today’s showcase will open a full weekend of live music at the joint. 

“Tomorrow we host the big guys, Jabavhu as we continue to support the jazz genre to wider audiences,” said Yassin. Alexio is currently bubbling with the release of his new album Tose, coming three years after the release of the popular Kana album. The urban grooves singer has won five awards in the past, three at National Arts Council Merit Awards (Nama) and two at Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima).

He rose to fame through the song 2000 Amai which is on a compilation album by Shamiso Entertainment. 
His first album Usazondisiya had the hit songs Kumba Kwenyu and the epic Ndinomhanya which became an anthem on the airwaves. He released the second album Rwiyo Rwangu (My Song) which carried tracks like Chibvugubvugu. Alexio released the compilation album Machikichori which had the hit track Musikana Akanaka. 

Pfimbi Yangu (My Special Place/ My Place of Solace) later followed the remixed version which he included on the album also managed to move hearts. He did a duet with Tererai on Tinodanana was popular among urban grooves audiences. Kana which is his fourth album carries collaborations with Andy Brown, Clive Mono Mkundu, Philip Svosve of the late James Chimombe’s Ocean City Band and Newman Chipeni. Songs on the album include Karwiyo Aka, Nyaya Yerudo and the undisputed hit of them all — Shaina.
