Jamaican dancehall star Mr Vegas (born Clifford Smith) who jetted into the country on Wednesday evening has promised fans a top-drawer performance tonight at Harare International Conference Centre (HICC). The show has been moved from Glamis Stadium to HICC due to rain fears. Speaking to NewsDay, the 36-year-old Jamaican musician said he was thrilled to be in Zimbabwe for the first time.
“I have heard so much about Zimbabwe from my fellow countryman Elephant Man and I couldn’t wait to come and see what he told me. The energy that the people in Zimbabwe showed him made me want to come,” said Mr Vegas. “I brought the whole band so people should expect great music. I expect the crowds to be have well. I also expect to see a lot of beautiful women there and I want people to sing and dance along to the music.”
Clint Robinsons, the promoter of the event, said they decided to host Mr Vegas because he was an artist who cuts across different music genres as he sings dancehall, hip hop and R&B. Robinsons said he believed Zimbabweans could identify better with Jamaicans as compared to stars from other countries.
“Bringing another dancehall act to Zimbabwe is as good as giving the people of Zimbabwe the best. I think they enjoy reggae and dancehall just like their favourite food,” said Robinson. Sniper Storm, Guspy Warrior, Ricky Fyah, Jiggaz and Final Warning are the local acts who will share the stage with Mr Vegas. Tickets to the show are being sold at all Food World outlets and Kick Start.
