Urban grooves singer Leonard Mapfumo will this year give his fans an early Christmas gift as he is set to release a single dubbed Moyo Chena next week. Speaking through his stable's manager at Heshi Mfeshi Records Joe Machingura, Mapfumo said the single hit song was by public demand. “The Journey was the last album I released in August 2010 and my fans are burning to have something new from me. I prefer giving my fans time to listen to the latest album before I start working on a new one.
“The problem is that as artistes we sometimes rush into releasing albums not taking into consideration the performance of the previous album on the market,” he said. “Music is not all about competition but it’s about giving your fans the best,” he added. The hit “Moyo Chena” is about the girl in Mapfumo's imagination who he wants.
It relates about the qualities of a certain girl. Leonard without doubt is one of the most consistent and level-headed musicians on the local scene. Mapfumo's first album was a collaborative effort between him and Roki, which was dubbed R&L 40 Track album.
His debut solo album was Namapfumo that he did in 2007 and it took him three years to release his second album The Journey. He started off with the hit Seiko that he performed with Roki under Delani Makhalima’s Galaxy Records. They had a beautiful video produced by prolific producer Rumbi Katedza who is currently directing television series The Team. HMetro)
