Tuku thrills fans with new Songs

Oliver Mtukudzi and Chiwoniso Maraire gave audiences a taste of their upcoming albums at separate shows over the weekend. Mtukudzi performed at Extra Mile Leisure Centre on Friday and shared the stage with Energy Mutodi and Peter “Dhewa” Moyo. Maraire on Saturday had an exciting gig at Mega Eastgate where she entertained a cosmopolitan crowd for almost four hours.

As he kicked off his performance, Mtukudzi took people into the future when he played three songs that were unknown to the audience. Most revellers listened attentively to the lyrics of the new songs, but many could not resist the exciting beat and took to the dance floor.

After the teaser Mtukudzi dug into his old bag and sent punters into a frenzy with his all-time hits. Despite the rains that had threatened to wash away weekend entertainment earlier that day, fans flocked to the venue in their numbers and by midnight the centre was packed. Mtukudzi’s publicist Shepherd Mutamba said in was the first time for the musician to play the new songs on stage, an indication that he might go into the studio soon for his 61st album.

“Fans are hearing the songs for the first time. He has been polishing up the songs and I am sure he is convinced they are now ready for the market,” said Mutamba. Before Mtukudzi came on stage Mutodi had warmed up the audience with his exciting rhumba tunes. Clad in a glittering red suit, the stylish musician led Real Sounds of Africa through a memorable performance. His dancing girls left many male fans drooling with their skimpy outfits and attractive gyrations.

Mutodi was up to the task of preparing the stage for Mtukudzi. He played songs like Chigorodanda, Patie and Angelina. Mtukudzi joined Mutodi on stage for one song, much to the delight of the audience. Last on stage was young Moyo who is showing signs of improvement. Although he is still struggling vocally, the young musician managed to keep fans on their feet. Shiga-Shiga and Spencer Kumulani proved to be the crowd’s favourites as they did their antics.
