Money splashing Sulu’s Wife applies for maintance

WHILE SULUMAN CHIMBETU is grabbing headlines for splashing money on the showbiz scene as he tries to ‘raid’ Alick Macheso’s key band members, he stands accused of starving his first wife and two children.

The ‘over-spending’ Suluman’s irresponsibility came to light after his first wife Marygold Mutemasango dragged him to court over a maintenance dispute. The Dendera music exponent was being accused of neglecting his two children he sired with his “on-off” wife, Marygold, while luring band members like dancer Sulu with a Mercedes Benz.

Marygold and Suluman’s legal representatives yesterday appeared before magistrate Brighton Pabwe at the Harare civil court. Marygold was claiming a whooping US$3 300 as monthly maintenance fee for the upkeep of their two children. On her affidavit, Marygold disclosed her detailed history with the 29-year-old bigamist, Suluman.

“The respondent and I entered into an unregistered customary union on 10 May 2008 and the union was blessed with two children. “The respondent has refused to maintain his children despite having the ability and means, he earns from US$3 300 to US$5 500 from his blossoming musical career per month,” she wrote.

She also indicated that Suluman was spending his money on luxuries while neglecting his children. “He has been buying cars and furniture at the expense of his children,” she added.

Meanwhile, Suluman’s lawyer highlighted to the court that both parties had consented to an out of court settlement. “We have agreed on an out of court settlement Your Worship and my learned colleague can confirm,” he said. Among other things, the US$3 300 was supposed to cater for rent, water, electricity, medical aid, and clothing. The presiding magistrate postponed the matter to May 25 to allow parties to reach an out of court settlement.
