Peter Moyo suspends Spencer, salutes Macheso

Peter Moyo

NOTHING will affect the performance of Utakataka Express outfit following the suspension of bass guitarist Spencer Khumulani from the group, leader of the band Peter Moyo, has said. Moyo also revealed that he has decided to suspend Spencer for insubordination after he reportedly signed a contract with rhumba outfit Real Sounds of Africa fronted by Energy Mutodi.
“This will not affect the group in any way. I decided to suspend Spencer and replace him with Saviours Karikotsi who will be playing the bass guitar because he (Spencer) went on to sign a contract with another group behind my back,” he said.Peter, however, said chanter Shiga Shiga will be part of the band when they play at Pamuzinda Highway Xscape this Friday. “Shiga Shiga will be there, he is still with us and he will be part of the band at our show on Friday,” Peter said.

It had been reported earlier that Spencer and Shiga Shiga will be joining Mutodi’s band, which gave rise to speculation over whether the depleted Utakataka Express will be able to hold its own without these key members. But Peter has downplayed this ascetion, assuring his fans that the band will be stronger since individual members could be easily replaced by others who are equally good. “The departure of individual members will not affect the progress of the group because others can easily fill in their shoes,” Peter said.

Meanwhile, the “Young Igwe” has added new songs to beef up the catalogue he plays at shows.
“We have added a catalogue of other songs at our shows for variety’s sake, and we are going to be playing them at Pamuzinda Highway Xscape on Friday,” he said. The show is also Peter’s third outing this year.
“Sharing the stage with Alick Macheso has helped me in a big way because each time I have shared the stage with him I have gained experience and confidence,” Peter said. (Herald)
