Jay-Z and close pal Warren Buffet |
The billionaire investor, 81, rubbed shoulders with celebrities young enough to be his grandchildren at the star-studded event last night. At one point he made a gangster-style Roc-A-Fella sign with his hands - a tribute to the record label run by Jay-Z.
He also posed for pictures with two women under his arm, before chatting to singer Ashanti, 30. It is not clear if Mr Buffett, who is worth $39billion making him the second richest person in the world, was the subject of any female attention during the evening. Mr Buffett’s appearance at the 40/40 club had less to do with a sudden interest in nightclubbing than his long standing friendship with Jay-Z, 42.
The two were both on the cover of the Forbes '400 richest Americans' issue last year and even starred in their own animation for children’s TV about how to manage your money. For the piece Jay-Z, himself worth around $450million, flew to Mr Buffett’s home in Omaha, Nebraska to talk business and share their wisdom.
The two men have since grown close and at the party Jay-Z could at one point be seen adjusting Mr Buffett’s tie. The event was the first public appearance for Jay-Z since the birth of his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, earlier this month. His wife Beyonce stayed at home with their daughter and did not attend.
Among the other guests were director Spike Lee, hip hop mogul Russell Simmons and Questlove from rap group The Roots. The 40/40 club - which is not in any way a reference to Buffett’s age - is a chain of bars owned by Jay-Z and already has a branch in Atlantic City, New Jersey. (DailyNews, uk)
