Alexio Kawara brings down City Sports Bar

Alexio Kawara
Urban grooves musician Alexio Kawarara was a toast on Friday as he gave a splendid stage performance that shook Harare’s City Sports Bar. Performing at the venue for the first time, Kawarashould have been surprised by the sheer number of people who turned out to see the Shaina star perform live.

City Sports Bar, which has proved to be a hit with revellers, was seething with music lovers among them a host of babes who seemed to be in love with Kawarara’s several songs as seen from their response. They sang along most of the classics.

“I am happy to be playing here for the first time and for those who have not seen Alexio and Shades, we are here to introduce ourselves and we have lots to offer tonight,” said Kawara. A lot to offer indeed as the urban grooves artist, clad in rock ‘n’ roll jeans and a shirt, took revellers down memory lane with classic from yesteryear artists. “Tinopota tichichachura dzevamwe,” said Kawarara as he belted popular reggae tunes to the excitement of music fans.

Kawarara sang songs from his new album Tose and the popular Amai, Rwiyo Rwangu and Kana albums. The urban grooves singer has won five awards in the past, three at National Arts Council Merit Awards (Nama) and two at Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima).

Love songs like Kumba kwenyu, Musikana Akanaka, Pfimbi Yangu (My Special Place/ My Place of Solace), Karwiyo Aka and Nyaya Yerudo were favourites among the babes until the end when he played the undisputed hit of them all — Shaina. (Herald)
