DRC to get taste of ‘Zora Butter’

Cheso Power in  action
Sungura virtuoso Alick Macheso will tour the Democratic Republic of Congo early next month. It will be his maiden tour of the mineral-rich country. With a population of over 71 million, the DRC is the 19th most populous nation in the world, the fourth most populous nation in Africa, as well as the most populous officially Francophone country.

The trip is being sponsored by Chez Ntemba. Speaking from South Africa, Chez Ntemba's Kaembe confirmed the trip saying they wanted Macheso to popularise sungura music in the DRC. "We want Zimbabwean artistes to step out of their limitations and give the people of DRC a taste of sungura music. "We also urge people to support talented people like Macheso and we want to give them a chance to explore themselves more," said Kaembe.

Macheso's manager, William Tsakundwa, confirmed the trip but said they were still to fix the dates. Tsakundwa said it would be Macheso's first show in that country, and something the sungura kingpin had always wanted to do. "Macheso is going to the DRC as part of our efforts to establish sungura music in many African countries.
"We hope he (Macheso) will do his best to market sungura in the DRC," he added. The renowned sungura musician has toured several African countries including Botswana, South Africa, Malawi and Mozambique.
