Sephuma celebrates with Facebook fans

Judith Sephuma
SONGWRITER and Afro jazz artist Judith Sephuma is using social media to promote the live DVD recording concert scheduled to take place this weekend. The venue for Sephuma's not-to-be-missed concert is Gold Reef City's Lyric Theatre in Johannesburg.

The concert is significant in that it marks Sephuma's 10th anniversary in the music industry, a period that has seen her amassing awards while at the same time dealing with personal challenges.

These included her much-publicised divorce from Afro jazz guitarist Selaelo Selota and re-marrying. She is currently married to photographer Siphiwe Mhlambi.Sephuma has won several awards, including the South African Music Awards statuette, over the years, proving her durability in an industry known for making and breaking artists.

"Those attending the upcoming shows will not only be part of the DVD recording, but they will share in the magic of the moment, travel the journey with me and bear witness to what I anticipate will be a major highlight for me both personally and professionally.

"This is the making of a classic - A Legacy: Live in Concert - and I want to capture the essence of the new arrangements and special guest appearances (which will be a surprise until then) with my fans," Sephuma said. The concert will take place this Saturday and Sunday and some of Sephuma's facebook friends can win tickets to the concert.

Sephuma's recording company, Sony Music, said: "In keeping with the spirit of celebrating Judith Sephuma's music over the last decade, 50 Facebook fans and their partners can win tickets for this Sunday's show. "Unfortunately, tickets for the Saturday show have already been sold out. "Details of the contest including criteria, mechanism for entering, and terms and conditions will be made available on Judith Sephuma's official Facebook fan page for the first time on http://www.facebook.com/judithsephumaofficial at 10am tomorrow.

"Also going live tomorrow will be her new global website www.judithsephuma.com.," Sony Music said. The concert will be recorded on both nights for release on DVD and audio CD later this year. There is also another bonus for Sephuma's fans - the recording will include a DVD package that will also include a bonus audio CD of a previously not yet released recording.

This dates back to exactly a decade ago when Sephuma performed live at The Market Theatre in Johannesburg, shortly after releasing her multi-platinum debut A Cry, A Smile, A Dance in 2001. (Sowetanlive)
