Another Chimbetu set to release debut album

Douglas Chimbetu
Douglas Chimbetu, the son of the dendera musician Allan Chimbetu of Sonny fame is being assisted by his father to release his solo album. The album will comprise six tracks which all border on dendera music genre and is titled Matsimba. Speaking to the Daily News, Chimbetu said it is always good for one to mature musically.

“It is not good for me to just depend solely on my father but I have to show signs of maturity,” said Chimbetu. He said he was enjoying working with his father as he is benefitting more from him. “I am getting more from my father and at the moment I really enjoy working with him.

I just want to release my albums under his band till I am ready to start my own band,” said the 21-year-old musician. On the new album, Allan will provide backing vocals and play the lead guitar on all the tracks. Allan confirmed the development and said by August the album should be on the market.

“I came up with the idea after I discovered his talent and eagerness to the music industry. “We share ideas but on this project I prefer in take a back seat, I want him to lead in decision making. I want him to be a real musician,” said Allan. Allan said he does not want to keep on spoon-feeding his son or to oppressing him.

“Because he is now a man he should know that he is free to start his own projects and I am trying to remove the mentality or feeling of being oppressed in him,” said the Jefferson hit-maker. The Daily News recently witnessed the concert pitting Douglas in the capital and he has proved his mettle musically.

He sang all the dendera songs of the late Simon, Naison and of his father Allan Chimbetu to perfection. Douglas is joining the band wagon to help musicians such as Allan, Suluman and Tryson to keep flying the dendera flag high. The dendera genre a brainchild of Simon and Naison some decades ago.
