Macheso head to head with his student Tryson at Pamuzinda

Macheso and Tryson
Macheso, Tryson lock horns at Pamuzinda THE duet between sungura kingpin Alick Macheso and dendera protégé Tryson Chimbetu seems to be stamping its authority in the entertainment scene. Macheso and Chimbetu this Friday return to Pamuzinda Highway Xscape open-air joint along Bulawayo Road, where the duo are expected to hold a high-octane show.

Those in the know will attest that Pamuzinda Highway has become Macheso’s second home ground after Aquatic Complex, and his shows at the venue are often sold out.Jethro Machanja, the assistant manager of the Orchestra Mberikwazo, revealed that the show would serve as an opportune time for Macheso to introduce some of his new songs from his upcoming album.

“We are going to take our performance to Pamuzinda, where we expect mudhara to add a few lines from a number of songs that are on our forthcoming album,” said Machanja. Macheso is expected to release his new album in June but has kept the name of the forthcoming project under wraps. The Extrabasso leader has made it his norm to nurture upcoming artistes and Tryson seems to have immensely improved under the guidance of the “Zora Butter” chanter.

Last weekend Tryson together with fellow upcoming artist Peter Moyo, wowed revellers at Holly’s Hotel, proving their musical prowess, which could set the musical arena alight, in the near future. Chimbetu is also promising a new package at the show including the new songs and a new dance called the “Gumkum dance”. As I am talking right now we are rehearsing in preparation for our show at Pamuzinda.

“Fans should should look forward to songs like like “Mombe Mombe” and “Kumuka Chekuseni” together with a new dance called “Gumkum”. The change in complexion of the Mberikwazo dancing crew after the departure of Francis “Slomo” Dhaka has resulted in new dancing routines being added onto the band’s performances.

“People should look forward to new dances that have been polished by the boys, and the favourite Borrowdale dance which have been spiced up a bit,” Machanja said. A sublime performance that has of late defined Chimbetu and his Marxist Brothers group in shows that include the 21st February Movement Gala, looks certain to complement Macheso’s usually enthralling gigs.
