Miss Zim finalists offered employment

Miss Zimbabwe finalists got a morale booster last week when Green Card Medical Aid Society and Doves Holdings offered to employ them after this year’s pageant. The finalists will take up jobs at the companies just after the pageant’s grand finale pencilled for March 23 at Harare International Conference Centre.

Green Card head of public relations Sibusisiwe Dube said they would employ the models as marketing officers. “We decided to assist the girls because they were likely to remain unemployed after the pageant. We will employ them as marketing officers and they will be paid on commission,” said Dube.

“They do not have to join us full-time if they have other commitments but can be our agents. They do not have to rely on well-wishers all the time.” Miss Universities Paula Machaya and a Miss Zimbabwe finalist, Tanya Chikuni, were employed by Green Card last year under a similar arrangement.

On Friday, the girls participating in this year’s pageant spent their day in the capital where they graced the World Cancer Day celebrations held at Africa Unity Square. They were educated about cancer and were urged to go for tests and help teach other people about the deadly disease. They also got a chance to tour the Rock Foundation Medical Centre and learnt more about staying healthy. After the long day, the finalists were treated to a dinner organised for them at Ochi City before heading back to their base in Marondera.

Miss Zimbabwe Trust is still sourcing sponsorship for the pageant. Meanwhile, outgoing Miss Universe Zimbabwe, Lisa Morgan and Miss Tourism Zimbabwe Rumbidzayi Mudzengerere have signed contracts with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and are now working for the Northern Region office at the Harare Showgrounds.
