Zimbabwe’s powerful performer of Chikwata, whose poetry is street, urban, hip hop and African is set to be the official host for Miombo Magic Musical Festival, a two day music festival to be held in Christonbank, 25km north of Harare.
The Festival to be held in a private game reserve with beautiful views overlooking the Golden Stairs and Iron Mask Range will run from 1000 hours of June 02 to 1500 hours of June 03, 2012.
Raising the curtains of the show on Saturday morning will be Word is Power, a home-grown gospel rock band from Christon Bank and Prayer Soul Mtamangira, Zimbabwe's finest neo-soul artist, whose music is a soulful blend of mellow vocals and fresh guitar.
In the afternoon, accompanying the luncheon will be the Irish Band serving lashings of traditional Irish folk music with a side-salad of bluegrass and folk-rock as well as TJ and theStigs, an outfit led by Zimbabwean music personality Jules Parsons, and featuring Josh Ansley on vocals.
In the evening, the main meal will be served with the backdrop of music by Old School classics influenced by Jimmy Hendrix, Motown and Zimbabwean township jazz and desert will follow alongside the punk mbira vibes of Chikwata and the strong driving beats of Footloose, a rock/pop-punk band with Toby 2Shoes wrapping up the day.
Annette Eastwood and John Kelly will then wake people up on a Sunday morning with beautiful piano, saxophone and clarinet numbers from yesteryear. Blavance, with their acoustic guitar rhythms and mellow vocals will then prepare people for breakfast which will be served alongside Tariro Ruzvidzo’s neo-soul rhythms.
Two American country-rock guitarists, Al and Adam will soothe the people with their blend of rock, folk and country music whilst Zimbabwean based French singer songwriter, French Lupi will take his audience on an ‘audio journey’ with his Gallic sounds and Franco-chic lyrics.
For Sunday Roast, there will be Sam, Paul and Susanne Farran ,a collaboration of two red hot guitarists and one female vocalist with Folk-Rock tunes and Ahmed and Dangerous, a reggae hip-hop drum and Bass fusion sound with funky Islamic influences.
The Closing Party will be by Toby 2Shoes allowing the people to have one final dance frenzy before the sun sets and the weekend ends. Tickets for the festival are available at Folio Bookshop in Borrowdale Village and 40 Cork Road Restaurant, Avondale for US$30. Kids under 6 year are free whilst those aged 6 to 12 will pay half price (US$15).
