Macheso: My best dancer looses his head when he gets paid

Alick Macheso
Alick Macheso has taken charge of his controversial dancer and former street-kid, Peter Kagomera’s financial affairs. Macheso said in a recent interview that he had opened a bank account for the dancer, probably the first in his life.

“At Mberikwazvo we have been working very hard in transforming Peter who had become associated with controversy,” he said. “I believe when I met Peter it was for a purpose and I admit he has been involved in some issues that tarnished the name of the band.

“Instead of giving him the marching orders, I felt it was my duty as brother to sit down with him and find out his major weakness as a human being. In our discussions I realised the young man lost control each time he got paid, as he would abuse alcohol and women.

“From our discussions we agreed that I am now going to help him in managing his financial issues and we have opened a bank account on his behalf,” he said. Macheso said they only withdraw Peter’s money if there is a genuine reason that requires money.

“I want this guy to be a responsible father who will have his family like any other men and that is the reason we decided to open an account,” he said. Macheso said they have decided to give Peter many duties that will help him become responsible.

“As you saw on stage Peter is now more active than before. We are doing this in a bid to keep him busy and already this has started giving us good results,” he said. Macheso admitted that Peter’s background might have had an influence towards his behaviour but had confidence that he can reform to be like any other child raised in a normal family.

“Peter is one of those people that I met at live shows and by then he was a street kid and I believed that his talent could make his life better. “In integrating him to society he had challenges, some of them you saw in the press but I am happy because I am achieving my goal by transforming the young man,”he said.

Peter was at some stage arrested for stealing a friend’s car to impress girls in his neigbourhood. He was later acquitted as the complainant dropped the charges.
