Macheso, Sounds of the Muddy Face to hold joint show in Esigodini

Sungura music maestro, the energetic Alick Macheso, is set to perform at Jabula Inn, Esigodini, on Sunday evening together with the late Cephas Mashakada’s band, Sounds of the Muddy Face.

Jabula Inn director Joram Moyo told NewsDay on Tuesday that although Macheso would bring his usual backing group, Orchestra Mberikwazo, they would also share the stage with the Sounds of the Muddy Face.
Mashakada succumbed to diabetes in August last year after battling the disease for some time. “We have invited Sounds of the Muddy Face to come and perform at Jabula Inn so that Mashakada’s legacy lives on,” he said. “He used to stage performances at the venue and we felt we could not neglect his band now that he had passed on.

“He used to take care of his family and the band through staging live music performances.”  Moyo said he had spoken to Macheso over the weekend and the musician had promised to deliver a new package.
“They said they have new dance routines which their fans would enjoy,” he said.

Macheso and Orchestra Mberikwazo are renowned for their flair for dancing especially when they delve into their long-playing instrumental tracks. Their hits include Madau, Mai Varubhi and Petunia, among others.

Moyo said it would be the first time that Macheso performs in Esigodini this year. “He has not performed in Bulawayo as well, hence we expect people to travel all the way and attend the show,” he said. Newsday
