Macheso to tour South Africa

Alick Macheso
Alick Macheso will next week travel to South Africa for two shows with urban grooves musician Enock Nox Guni. The musicians will perform in Johannesburg on May 29 and Pretoria on May 30. It will be Machesos first international tour this year and the sungura musician has promised great shows.

Fans are likely to have a lifetime experience considering Macheso has not performed in that country for more than a year while South Africa-based Nox is riding high with his hit Ndinonyara. Speaking to NewsDay yesterday Machesos manager William Tsandukwa said fans in SA must look forward to memorable shows because they will sample new songs.

The new songs are well polished, so they must look forward to great events, said Tsandukwa. We are going there to show that the band is growing stronger with each album release and the upcoming album is definitely going to be a scorcher.

Fans that have heard our upcoming songs admit we are going on a higher level. Macheso recently introduced the tora bute dance that has been well received although zorai butter is still at the hearts of many. The band will travel with their prodigal son and lead guitarist Noel Nyazanda, who recently rejoined the group after defecting to Sulumani Chimbetu.

Tsandukwa said although they will be sampling new songs, fans had to wait a little longer before the release of the new album.A lot of people are calling and asking when the next album will be released, but our fans will have to wait until August because we are working on it and we will take our time to release a quality product, he said.

Macheso will be staging a string of farewell shows ahead of the tour and tonight he performs at Sports Diner International where he will share the stage with the late Cephas Mashakadas band, The Sounds of the Muddy Face, now fronted by Shemu Chibage Mashonganyika.

Macheso has vowed to help the band find its footing following the death of its leader. Tsandukwa said the show at Sports Diner will be a chance for local fans to sample more new songs since they had been playing only two upcoming tracks at recent gigs. He said the coming shows will be rehearsals for the SA tour. He said combining with Nox on the tour was timely because the young musician was doing well.

In an interview from SA, Nox said he was preparing a great act and would complement Macheso in a big way.  I expect these two shows to be explosive as usual. I will be performing my new album, Ice n Roses for the first time, said Nox.

This album has 18 songs and thats where you get the smash hit song Ndinonyara and the just released song called Kana Ndinewe. As usual I promise a top-of-the-range performance and this would be the fifth time to share the stage with Macheso.

I am really humbled by the fact that whenever he comes to SA he chooses to perform with no one else besides me and he also told me at one point that he is my greatest fan. Newsday
