Zimbabwean music legend Oliver Mtukudzi brought Hifa to a breathtaking finale with classy closing gig on the Telecel Main Stage in which he collaborated with Senegalese superstar Ismael Lo and several others.
Tuku, who was celebrating his 60th birthday, put up an energetic and well-choreographed show that befitted the ending of what has become a truly world-class arts festival.
Tuku, who with exiled Zimbabwean Chimurenga legend Thomas Mapfumo are the doyens of Zimbabwean music, impressed the big crowd with the way he elegantly fused his beat with various musicians on the night.Tuku, who was celebrating his 60th birthday, put up an energetic and well-choreographed show that befitted the ending of what has become a truly world-class arts festival.
Tuku’s first guest was the talented Willom Tight before Edith WeUtonga — who has become a powerful force within the Zimbabwean music scene with her seven-piece Utonga band — impressed many with her bass guitar skills.
Publish The Quest, managed by Zimbabwean-born Johnny Fernandes and who also played during last year’s Hifa, showed their craftsmanship during their act with Tuku.
The highlight of the night was no doubt Tuku’s duet with Senegalese music maestro Ismael Lo. The Senegalese guitarist, harmonica player and singer revived memories of his first Hifa duet with Tuku at Hifa 2004, with another awe-inspiring joint act with Tuku. Dailynews
