Tuku, Sulu welcome Roki

Oliver Mtukudzi
Rockford “Roki” Josphats will on Saturday stage his first show after disqualification from Big Brother Stargame. Roki, who returned home last Thursday, will share the stage with Oliver Mtukudzi, Sulumani Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah and Diana Samkange at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).

The urban grooves musician had a chance to meet his fans at a welcome party held in Newlands last weekend while tomorrow he will be expected to have a similar event in Kwekwe. But the Saturday show will be his first public performance since his unceremonious exit from the Big Brother Stargame reality show.Roki and fellow country representative, Maneta Mazanhi, were disqualified after a brawl. At his welcome party in Newlands, Roki mingled with fans while his manageress Bybit Areketa said the Kwekwe show will be special appearance before the grand performance at HICC.

An official from Mtukudzi’s stable Tuku Music said they would take the opportunity to welcome Roki back on stage after his stint in Big Brother Stargame. The official said they expected Roki to announce his return with a good performance. Roki will perform before Mtukudzi while Chimbetu will be expected to perform last.

Chimbetu said he was touched by Roki’s exit from Big Brother show because he had fully supported his fellow artist and saw his potential to win the show. “I feel Roki achieved (something) during his time in the Big Brother house. Although his disqualification was unfortunate, the way he carried our hopes daily and kept most viewers entertained, was exceptional,” said Chimbetu.

“I welcome him back with open arms and an open heart and I will take the show as an opportunity to register my appreciation.” The show will also be Mtukudzi’s farewell event ahead of his three-month tour of Europe and the United States. He is expected to return to local showbiz in September. Newsday
