Shumba, Charamba shine at Aquatic Complex

Blessing Shumba
Rising gospel star Blessing Shumba and the gospel couple Pastor Charles and Olivia Charamba, did not disappoint the crowd that thronged the Aquatic Complex in Chitungwiza on Saturday for a Methodist Church fundraising concert. Though there were squabbles at the back stage before Shumba took to the floor with the show organisers demanding a half-fee back from the gospel star accusing him of coming to the show an hour later, the show was a success.
Shumba introduced his performance with the song Rumbidzo and set the stage on fire before belting out his hit tracks including Hama, Mufaro and Zita renyu leaving the crowd crying for more. As he left the stage, the gospel couple Pastor Charles and Olivia Charamba took over, giving another spectacular performance as they took fans down memory lane with their old songs like Kuna Mwari kudenga and Moses naAaron among others.

Speaking after the show Shumba said he was humbled by the response he was getting from fans. “It’s a God-given talent because the way people are responding to my music is so surprising. It is not my power but His grace,” said Shumba. He said he was working on a new album he would release it by the end of this year.

“The only problem we are facing during live performances is that our songs are still few, so we are working on a new album which will be ready by the end of this year and for now we are going on with shows,” he said. Pastor Charamba said it was an honour to perform with Shumba whom he described as another gospel star on the block.

Other groups who performed at the same event were the Devine Jewels and The Great Commission, who displayed their energetic dances which entertained the crowd. One of the show organisers Fungai Chinyerere said it was a great show, adding they were excited by the turn-out.

“It was a great show I am happy the artists did not disappoint though some of them were not punctual. I am happy they have performed well,” said Chinyerere. Newsday
