I could not land any acting job after Gringo Series - Firimon


Firimoni, the on-screen boyfriend of Madhumbe in the Gringo series says he failed to capitalise on his fame and is now back to his old job as a driver.

Firimoni, real name, Fanuel Tonganayi, said this week he found it tough going after the series ended. He is a driver at the ZBC.

Tonganayi relishes the good old days when people would religiously follow the Gringo series. He misses his on-set girlfriend, Madhumbe, who is now based in Canada. Madhumbe is now a musician with a Mbira outfit.

One thing the writer and the executive producer of the previous Gringo series, Enock Chihombori, must be credited for is selecting right characters.Anyone who could assume the role of Firimoni had to be good at acting dull and the writer’s choice in Fanuel Tonganayi who assumed the role was striking.

Madhumbe of Gringo Fame pursuing Music

A popular actress, Mdhumbe, part of local drama Gringo Ndiani, is now pursuing music in Canada.One scene that sticks in many viewers minds’s is when Gringo locked two interesting characters, Madhumbe and Firimoni, in his boss’s bedroom.

Madhumbe (born Memory Makuri), whose role was a maid at the house, tried to convince Gringo (Lazarus Boora), who acted as garden boy, to let them out of the house, but her efforts were fruitless until Gweshegweshe, the boss, arrived and Madhumbe was fired.

Gringo's son coming of age

Taurai Boora, the son to the great comedian Lazarus Boora of the popular Zimbabwean omedy“Gringo”, is doing well in following in his father’s footsteps. Taurai (17) is specialising in solo dancing and stage acting and he recently did an amazing solo performance in Rusape in support of Madzibaba Zachariah’s show where he danced to kwaito, sungura and rhumba music.

On the same day, the youngster also performed with Alick Macheso on one of his popular songs, “Wemakonzo”. As they shared the stage, Taurai acted three characters in one scene, as the babamukuru, tezvara and the girl in the song.

Cases of sons taking after their fathers have become commonplace in music, but the latest case in this trend comes from the comedy scene. Taurai Boora (19), who is Lazarus “Gringo” Boora’s first born, has decided to pursue comedy, which made his father famous.

Gringo back on the Big Screen

Popular television series Gringo is set to hit the big screen with the release of a hilarious comedy feature, Gringo – Troublemaker. The film, written by award-winning script writer Enock Chihombori, is poised to reignite memories of 1998 when Gringo first showed on local television. “Gringo (Lazarus Boora) has been itching for this comeback for some time now. He is ready to go,” said Chihombori.
