David Chifunyise of the Tauya Naye Fame plotting a come back

HARARE – David Chifunyise, one of the pioneers of Urban Grooves music has hinted a comeback after quietness in his music career. D-va as he is popularly known, led the Urban Grooves genre breakthrough with the hit song Tauya Naye at the turn of the millennium. He eventually became a household name in the late 1990’s and dominated the music charts with songs such as Tauya Naye and Sarudzai. Tauya Naye soon became a popular song in the country especially at weddings.
It also got generous airplay on radio and television stations such as ZBC TV and Channel O. In a brief chat with the Daily News on the sidelines of the premiere of Fists and Fingers at Theatre in the Park, Chifunyise said he has put together a band and is bouncing back to the industry he left a few years ago after it took a dip.“I am coming back very soon.
I have been concentrating more on my work but after receiving a lot of complaints from people who want me back, I decided to give it a serious hought.  So I have been working on my music for three days a week,” said Chifunyise. He also said his upcoming album will incorporate old and new songs. “There are some songs which I have been working on for some time so I will also include them,” he said.
Chifunyise has not been out of the music industry but has been working behind the scenes, recording and writing songs. His job as a systems engineer has kept him busy throughout the years and his return to the music stage has been long overdue. Chifunyise has three albums under his belt, Tauya Naye released in 2000, The Private Collection of 2002 and Zvandiri (As I Am) in 2004.
He described Zvandiri as the most revealing album that he has produced to date. In 2010, he launched a limited edition album titled Classics Volume 1 which is essentially a collection of his hit songs since the launch of his music career.
The 31-year-old musician is also credited with producing the theme song to the popular Zimbabwe television soap Studio 263.He is son to renowned arts personality, Stephen Chifunyise, who is credited with contributing immensely to the theatre industry and Chipawo programmes.
