Italian jazz maestro Francesco Bearzatti to perform in Harare

INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed Italian jazz artiste Francesco Bearzatti and his Tinissima Quarte band are set to perform at this year's October International Jazz Festival which will be held in from October 7-16.
The festival is a cultural exchange initiative of the Italian Embassy in Harare in partnership with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and Pamberi Trust. The programme has also seen the likes of Zimbabwean jazz sensation Dudu Manhenga and her Color Blu holding shows in Italy. Apart from being a singer, the artiste is also a saxophonist, clarinettist and composer. Francesco Bearzatti's album titled "X (Suite for Malcolm") won the Best Album 2010 in the Italian Top Jazz 2010 competition and his group also won the best group the same year.

The band is made of veteran musicians who include the likes of Giovanni Falzone, Danilo Gallo and Zeno De Rossi among others who are all tried and tested musicians who can keep the crowd at their feet all night. The album was a special tribute to the Malcolm X, the late rights activist who brought radical change in the relationships of blacks and whites in United States of America. He said that Malcolm X was an extraordinary human being whose life and work must be celebrated by all.

"The story of Malcolm X is exciting and deeply human, when I began to write, I had his life in my head and I wanted to narrate it. Malcolm X is a very important person; he is not celebrated enough for his strength and ability."Malcolm is one of the most intelligent and active of all those who contributed to changing the social situation of Afro-Americans: it seemed to me only right to highlight this and to help to rediscover him," Bearzatti said.
