Music Giants clash in Mbare

DESPITE having all sorts of unsavory talk over competition and rivalry, some musicians continue to hold successful shows together silencing their critics. One of such latest shows is the one pitting Sungura and Dendera titans Suluman Chimbetu, Freddy "Kapfupi" Manjalima and Josphat Somanje to be held at the Mbare Netball Complex this Saturday.

What makes the show a must attend is the unique combination of the three and vibrancy they are set to create among their legions of fans - who despite their different preferences - would at least want to see their favourite artistes live in action. Josphat Somanje said it was healthy for musicians to share the stage and ignore the issue of taking each other as rivals.

"Variety shows whereby musicians share the stage amongst themselves are good in that we give people variety while at the same time we show that we are united," Josphat said. He also revealed that he would use the same platform to sample new songs from his forthcoming seventh album. While Josphat will be out to represent his own type of genre, revellers will be spoilt for a choice as the "three worlds of music" come together in what show organisers have dubbed "the first clash of the trio" on the Mbare turf.

"The result is not just ‘fireworks' but one of the most sought-after cocktail of music genres from three of the country's talented musicians of our time. "While Kapfupi and Josphat have been in the music industry for a long time way before, Sulu has made a name for himself, rising to join the league of his fellows Kapfupi and Josphat. "This is also the first time that the three musicians will be playing together at Mbare Netball Complex.

"As you know, the area (Mbare) is normally a concentration for small scale farmers who bring their produce to Harare and go yet with an interest in seeing some of their favourite artistes. "The show is going to be an opportunity for them to enjoy," said Kudzai Masimura of Kudziman and Robbie Nice Promotions, who are organising the show.
Sulu is no stranger to the local music scene having risen like a phoenix to fill in his late father Simon's musical shoes to chart a successful course at the helm of the Orchestra Dendera Kings. He released just a few albums but few as they are they have thrust him onto the top of the music game. His latest "Non-Stop" has become an all favourite for legions of music fans and his shows are sold out.

"Comedian-turned-musician Kapfupi has also had a phenomenal rise to stardom following the success of his album "Juice Card" that carries the hit song "Juice Card". He has just released a new album called "Musoja".
Josphat reached his peak following the release and success of his album "This Time" that carried the title track of the same title which people referred to as "Haulume". (Herald)
