Sulumani Courts Jean Masters

DENDERA musician Suluman Chimbetu has set his sights on developing other upcoming artistes through staging joint shows. The "Kwedu" hit-maker - himself mentored by the likes of Oliver Mtukudzi and his uncle Allan Chimbetu to become the polished artiste that he is today - Sulu has taken it upon himself to assist other musicians to climb up the music ladder.

Two of such artistes are none other than Sister Jean and Munya Mataruse, whom he shares the stage with tomorrow at Jazz 105 in Harare. While the trio is not new at Jazz 105, having become almost a permanent feature at the popular joint, it is the combination that is likely to cause fireworks considering the different genres that the artistes play. It is no secret that Sulu is currently on top of his game and is a prodigy in the dendera music realm, basking in the success of his album "Non-Stop" that carries a string of hit songs like "Dzamutsana", "Temperature" and "Kwedu" among others.

Sulu will without doubt impart a few tricks to Sister Jean and Mataruse while he obliges fans of his late father Simon's music when he plays some of his golden hits like "Africa", "Pane Asipo" and "Ndarangarira Gamba".
Sister Jean, on the other hand, has been a supporting act at most of Sulu's shows and those who have attended some of the gigs where she has played will testify how gifted she is, with a voice that is certain to take her places.

The diva will use the platform to promote her new album titled "Africa" which she launched in Harare recently.
Her performance will give afro-jazz lovers something to smile about as it adds variety and a unique flavour to the gig. Young Mataruse will also prove that he is no push-over when he shows the stuff he is made of. The young guitarist, who was inspired and mentored by Mtukudzi, has since become his own man and has built his own fan base.

A product of Tuku's Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton, Mataruse recently released his debut album "Dengu Remhodzi" and those who have not heard some of the songs carried on the album will have an opportunity to sample his tunes at the gig. Apart from Sulu, Mataruse has also benefited curtain raising for Tuku while he also impressed at the Harare International Festival of the Arts.
