Clash of Titans today with ‘Zora Butter’, Katekwe invasion of Chitungwiza

Chitungwiza and its environs will tonight come alive when two of Zimbabwe's prominent musicians Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi and sungura ace Alick "Cheso Power" Macheso share the stage in what promises to be an epic battle. The duo will be supported by Tryson Chimbetu. Dubbed the "The Final Showdown", the combination of Tuku and Macheso on stage at the same time is sure to send chills of sensation among fans, who had been waiting for this clash for months.
And those who attended the August show can attest to the fact that the gig was off the hook and it is certain that the two will raise the bar higher even higher tonight. The beauty of this show is it will not cost revellers much less than what they are accustomed to every time Tuku holds a show in Harare. Only US$5 to enjoy a night of musical bliss until the wee hours of tomorrow. "Last time, people complained that we ended up charging more than the advertised prices, but I just want to assure fans that the charge will remain at US$5," said Joseph Habis, the event organiser.

Both Macheso and Mtukudzi are not newcomers when it comes to staging polished acts and they have a wealth of showbiz experience between them. Mtukudzi has been one of the most consistent musicians in Zimbabwe and has released 60 albums to date. He was appointed the United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for championing children's rights through song. Songs such as "Street Kids" and "Hazvireve Rudo Handina," are some of the many songs that focus on the plight of children. The Kora Award winner is currently riding high with his latest album, "Abi'angu", that has received rave reviews in the media and welcomed by appreciative listeners.

On the sungura side of things, Macheso, famous for his "Zora Butter" dance that has become a favourite of many a Dynamos fan, will bring the house down considering that DeMbare won the a rare league and cup double, and the euphoria will transcend into more joy at the Aquatic Complex. And better still, the venue is probably the favourite hunting ground for Macheso, who is viewed as the hero in the satellite town of Chitungwiza. What makes the whole show is the inclusion of Tryson in the line-up. Although he (Tryson) has been a supporting act for Macheso for the better part of the year, this is one of those encounters where the talented artiste needs to rise and whet the appetite of music lovers with his "feel good" dendera touch.

Many have asked if Tryson can live up to the task of being the only upcoming musician to have the honour of playing on the same platform with the legends. But those who know Tryson better will recall how he has impressed at national music galas and his shows with Macheso. The young musician has had a very fruitful year starting with the release of his album "Bvamroad". He has been consistently holding shows and is getting better with every outing.
