Franco Ex Macheso dancer first show with Sulu uninspiring

Sulu and new signing Franco 'Slomo' Dhaka
IT SEEMS Dendera music exponent Suluman Chimbetu is trying hard to impress his legion of fans! The 29-year-old crooner appeared to be under pressure to justify his latest signings from Alick Macheso’s Orchestra Mberikwazvo during his first show of 2012 held at Jazz 105 last Friday.
Sulu really tried hard to make new dancer Francis “Slomo” Dhaka, lead guitarist Noel Nyazanda and backing vocalist Elton Muropa to gel with his old band members for the greater part of the night. To say Suluman really struggled to make the grade would be a gross understatement. Maybe UNINSPIRING is the best word to describe his performance at the popular eatery. Despite the fact that the band was dressed to kill, their act was not up to scratch.

And it should be mentioned that all the eyes were on Slomo who was reduced to a mere spectator. The energetic dancer who was used to Macheso's fast paced beat really struggled to dance to the Dendera beat.
Maybe he will gel with time although he did a shoddy job on his debut. Slomo, who is used to rapturous reception whenever he appears on stage, must have been stunned by the crowd. On the other hand, Elton Muropa appeared clueless for the entire night. He appeared like a bouncer on stage as his input was totally unnoticed, raising questions as to whether Suluman had made a wise buy in him.

However, Noel had a good day in office although he still needs to adjust to the Dendera beat. The experienced guitarist settled well at Sulu’s camp giving value for the US$4 000 cash loan he was given to buy a residential stand. Lnaky dancer Darlington Chabata as he did both the vocals and dancing. Meanwhile, long-serving dancer Shacky Phiri has since re-joined Sulu. Shacky, who performed with Sulu’s late father Simon, was recalled after he deserted him in December along with three other dancers that are reportedly roaming the streets in search of new jobs.

“I have rejoined Sulu.We solved our differences and I won’t say much,” said the ecstatic Shacky.
Sulu has also roped in former Utakataka dancer Tafadzwa Gwanzura after a failed trial stint at Orchestra Mberikwazvo. (HMetro)
