Chipaz to host ‘Birthday Bash’ for Jah Prayzah

Four years have barely passed after he stormed Zimbabwe’s mainstream music scene, but talented contemporary reggae musician Jah Prayzah — real name Mukudzei Mukombe — is already a household name at such a youthful age.

He has rubbed shoulders with some of the country’s top musicians among them Oliver Mtukudzi, Alick Macheso, Leonard Zhakata and Suluman Chimbetu, among others, a feat seldom achieved by his compatriots. Now at the age of 25, music promoters have decided to honour him for his contribution to the music industry in the short time that he has been around.

And what a better way of doing it than organising a birthday bash for Jay Prayzah thus giving his legion of fans a chance to celebrate together with their favourite musician. Music promoters Chipaz Promotions in conjunction with Jazz 105 will be hosting the birthday commemoration for the artiste’s 25th birthday dubbed “Jah Prayzah Birthday Bash” at Jazz 105 in Harare this Friday.

The event promises to be a thriller considering that the artiste will be celebrating his Silver Jubilee before his legion of fans who gave him the confidence he has today by standing by his side since the time he turned professional. “Although Jah Prayzah celebrates his birthday on July 4, we decided to hold a belated birthday gig to give his fans an opportunity to celebrate with him. The gig is meant to celebrate his achievements in the music industry and there will be surprise acts on the night of the show,” Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Chimbodza said.

Jah Prayzah himself was over the moon about the birthday bash, saying it was going to be unique from his previous others. “This a major milestone in my life and it is going to be different from all my previous birthday celebrations since it coincides with the time that my music career is at its peak while at the same time it marks my Silver Jubilee.

“I expect my fans to come and celebrate with me as I will also be sampling new songs from my forthcoming fourth album set for release either end of this year or early next year,” he said. The gifted artiste has been maturing with each outing and release like wine after since he arrived on the music scene with his unique music brand that is a fusion of reggae and traditional mbira rhythms.

He is also endowed with powerful vocal and composition skills unrivalled by none of his compatriots, which has made his music original. Who would have guessed that this young man born on July 4, 1987 would one day become a hit and one of Zimbabwe’s most sought-after musicians?
Last week, Jah Prayzah was part of the line-up of musicians including Sulu, Diana Samkange and Roki who performed at “Tuku’s Last Gig” held at the Harare International Conference Centre.

Apart from music, Jah Prayzah has also had cameo roles in a number of local dramas. He has three albums to his name — “Rudo Nerunyararo” (2007), “Sungano Yerudo” (2010) and “Ngwarira Kuparara” released last year. Herald
