'My husband was velified, but celebrated in death - Nadin Brown

 Nadine Brown, wife of the late musician Andy Brown is set to release an album entitled Wakanonoka next month, which will pay tribute to her late husband.

In an interview with the Daily News last week, Brown said the album is dedicated to people who used to say unpleasant things about the late leader of the Storm band.

“People and the media used to pass negative comments about Andy saying Brown apera (Brown now a spent force) but when he died the tone changed.

“People started saying positive things soon after his death, so the message in the album is to remind them that their positive comments are too late,” she said. Barely four months after Brown passed away; Nadine stunned the nation when she took over as the band’s lead vocalist, a move which took the band to another level.

“We have managed to tour the country holding live concerts, recently we were in Chiredzi and Chimanimani where we left our fans calling for more. Fans were surprised as they were not expecting to find the band intact,” she said. On Friday, Nadine will be playing as an opening act to the dendera musician Suluman Chimbetu at Jazz 105 in Harare.

Yassin Dhala, Jazz 105 manager told the Daily News the joint will continue giving Nadine support based on their relationship with the late Andy. “We used to have a good working relationship with Andy Brown and his band so it will be unfair to forget or ignore his band because he is no more. He used to perform here (Jazz 105) regularly and Nadine should also take this joint as her home,”said Dhala.

The first time Nadine performed at the joint was when she curtain raised for jazz artiste Victor Kunonga. She has also performed as an opening act for rising dendera musician Tryson Chimbetu.

Brown succumbed to pneumonia at the age of 50 early this year.

He fell out of favour with his fans after he aligned with the former ruling party Zanu PF which no longer enjoys majority support. The Mawere Kongonya singer was arguably one of the most talented guitarists to emerge from Zimbabwe. He churned out hits including Daisy, Mawere Kongonya, Tichangoshaina and Mapurisa.
