We only get to read about celebrities throwing huge birthday parties to celebrate with their families and loved ones through the foreign media, but this time the flamboyant celebrations are coming to Zimbabwe in September.

Jazz 105 director and entertainment promoter Josh Hozheri said his joint is planning a big birthday bash for superstar Oliver ‘‘Tuku’’ Mtukudzi to celebrate his 60th birthday. “We are planning big things for mudhara Tuku as he will be celebrating his 60th birthday in September.

“We will have a big bash for the superstar. The gig will be held on September 21,” he said. The organising committee comprises of Josh Hozheri, Patson ‘‘Chipaz’’ Chimbodza and Taka Mashonganyika. It will be a star-studded affair with the region’s finest billed to perform at the celebration dubbed “Tuku and Friends.”

“Dorothy Masuka, Ringo Madlingozi, Judith Sephuma and others will perform. The gig will be held at Glamis Arena and Tuku will be ferried from Norton to the stadium in a helicopter. “We are still working on the clearance of the chopper but we want to make it a big celebration for Tuku,” said Hozheri.

Tuku has worked with a number of big artistes and have even recorded duets with them. He collaborated with Ringo on an album titled Into Yami in year 2000. The promoter promised fireworks after the performance but ticket prices are still to be announced. Dailynews
