HARARE - Urban grooves singer Alexio Kawara will in September release his new album, Tose, three years after the release of the popular Kana album. Speaking to the Daily News, Alexio said he is putting finishing touches to the album.Right now I am putting finishing touches. I am not certain of the launch date. The album will carry 13 songs comprising various themes. Tose which is the title track encourages unity among Zimbabweans.
“It is about restoring unity in Zimbabweans that was there back in the early days. It also talks about restoring everything we had, the peace, love and harmony we had as a nation,” he said.
Alexio said he will feature some upcoming artists on the album. “I cannot give you the names yet but you will know later. The reason why I chose upcoming artists is that I realised that they had talent and it just needs to be realised. I want to give them a chance to show what they can do,” he said.
The singer is recording at the Sunshine and Monolio Studios, respectively, as he seeks variety and flavour for the album. “The reason why I used more than one studio is that I want to add variety so that the tracks will be different from each other as the different studios have different ways of mixing. I am also working with Keith Farquharson who will do the sound mixing and engineering in Cape Town,” said Alexio.
Tose is his fifth album and Alexio has been working on it for the past three years.
Alexio said: “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. It is up to us musicians to compose music that expresses people’s emotions.”
He has won five awards in the past, three at Namas and two at Zimbabwe Music Awards.
He rose to fame through the song 2000 Amai which is on a compilation album by Shamiso Entertainment.
His first album Usazondisiya had the hit songs Kumba kwenyu and the epic Ndinomhanya which became an anthem on the airwaves. He released the second album Rwiyo Rwangu (My Song) which carried tracks like Chibvugubvugu. He did duet with Tererai on Tinodanana which was popular among urban grooves audiences.
Kana which is fourth album carries collaborations with Andy Brown, Clive Mono Mkundu, Philip Svosve of the late James Chimombe’s Ocean City Band and Newman Chipeni. Songs on the album include Karwiyo Aka, Nyaya Yerudo and the undisputed hit of them all — Shaina
