Macheso's problem child returns home

TALENTED dancer Peter Kagomera (23), who was chucked out of the Orchestra Mberikwazvo three months ago, has bounced back after apologising to band leader Alick “Extrabasso” Macheso for his unbecoming conduct. Kagomera was re-hired at the Chitungwiza-based outfit last month during the band’s show at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex. He apologised to Extrabasso through music promoter Joe Munyebvu, who brought the two (Extrabasso and Kagomera) together to iron out their differences. Extrabasso extended his olive brand to Kagomera and forgave him.Macheso said he sees the young dancer as a vital cog in the wheel of his band, prompting him to reverse his decision to sack him for good. But he did not mince his words saying Kagomera’s wayward behaviour was unacceptable. “Obviously, he hasn’t reformed yet because I found accommodation for him where I am paying rent but he sleeps out all the time.

“One wonders what he will be doing on the streets,” said Macheso. Kagomera joined Orchestra Mberikwazvo in 2010 after Macheso was impressed by his dancing antics at one his shows in Chitungwiza.
Kagomera, a dancer par excellence, had “gone wild” but he confided in Munyebvu that he was a changed person. “I owe you one, you really showed me love and I appreciate all the effort you (Munyebvu) made in giving me back my life,” Kagomera said.

Those who attended Orchestra Mberikwazvo’s shows were thrilled to see Kagomera back in the fold. However, Munyebvu commended Macheso for the way he handled the issue. “Macheso is a forgiving father. I am happy that he showed some maturity by accepting back a boy who had troubled him before,” Munyebvu said. Kagomera, who is viewed by Macheso as a “problem child”, missed the band’s two previous tours of South Africa after he squandered the money meant for his passport.

Kagomera had spent the money on ZED, a popular illicit brew also known as “krango”, with his friends and women. Kagomera – former streetkid – also has a tendency of co-habitting with different women resulting in him failing to turn up for work the next day or going AWOL. However, Kagomera reiterated that he regretted everything he did and blamed his drinking habits as the cause of his misdemeanours.

“Kudhakwa kwandaingoita – ndaingofunga kuti kutamba but ndadzidza kuti munhu anenge ava celebrity seniso anofanira kungova necontrol on and off the stage. “Rent nefood ndanga ndava kudzokerazve kunaMudhara Macheso kunokumbira – which is not right. (I blame it on alcohol and regret everything I did. I now know that as a musician I should behave in a certain way).

“Iyezvino ndinoda kuti Mudhara Macheso vachinditsvakira mukadzi wakanaka – toenda kuNew Start Centre then ndoroora iyeye. (I now want Macheso to assist in finding a real woman to marry)”, said Kagomera.
