Her marriage lasted just 72 days, but Kim Kardashian is set to keep her $2 million engagement ring. NBA star Kris Humphries was hoping to get the 20.5 carat diamond back from his now estranged wife, according to sources. However, Kim's mother and manager Kris Jenner, 55, has nixed the idea. 'It’s a gift - you keep a gift,' Jenner, the shrewd matriarch of the Kardashian clan, told Good Morning America while promoting her new memoir. She added: 'I hate an Indian giver.'
The phrase, which is considered by some to be offensive to American Indians, describes a person who gives a present and later wants it back. Jenner said Kim's decision to file for divorce on Monday came 'after a lot of heartache.' She said: 'Kim's dream [was] to get married and have babies, and raise a family - that’s all she’s ever wanted.' Jenner hopes her daughter will soon heal from her heartache.
'Kim hasn’t been the Kim I know,' Jenner said. 'She seemed worried, not her happy self. I want Kim back - I want her to be happy.' Jenner has previously insisted that reports of Kim making a large profit from the wedding - a rumoured $10 million - were false. She insisted her daughter 'didn't make a dime' from the nuptials.
In a message on her blog on Tuesday, Kim said she 'donating the money for all the gifts to the Dream Foundation.' Kim today cut short her money-spinning visit to Australia to deal with the fall-out from the split.
The reality TV star pulled out of a lucrative appearance at an Australian horse racing event at the 11th hour and will jet back to the U.S. today.
The 31-year-old was set to attend the Swisse vitamins marquee at Saturday's Stakes Day as part of Melbourne's annual spring carnival. She was expected to earn more than $150,000 for the one-hour appearance. But she told event officials today that she was scrapping the event from her schedule.
She said: 'I am very disappointed that I am unable to attend the Swisse marquee but I hope to come back and work with the Swisse team at another point in time.' A spokesman for Swisse told Melbourne's Herald Sun newspaper: 'All indications were that Kim wanted to fulfill all of her commitments once she landed in Australia but has obviously changed her mind given her very difficult personal challenges at the moment.'
Kim flew to Australia earlier this week, just hours after filing for divorce from her husband of 72 days, Kris Humphries, 26. The star was in the country with her sister Khloe to promote the family's new handbag line.
Kardashian's wedding to Humphries was televised on E! to huge ratings last month. The rapid dissolution of the marriage put the Kardashian clan squarely in line for public ridicule.
Jay Leno opened his 'Tonight' show Tuesday with six straight Kardashian jokes. 'Seventy-two days,' he said. 'I was on at 10 o'clock longer than that.' David Letterman offered a Top Ten list of 'Things That Have Lasted Longer Than the Kardashian Marriage.' No. 5 was 'ABC's remake of 'Charlie's Angels.'' No. 9 was 'a conversation with Regis.'
