BBA 2011 Contestant Vimbai Mutinhiri ventures into Music

Vimbai Mutinhiri, Zimbabwe’s Big Brother 2011 contestant, will soon release her debut single record, Summer Love. She has been singing since the age of five. “I have been singing since five but I did not have the confidence to record and I have also been busy. I have now recorded a single record,” she told the Daily News.

She said of Summer Love: “It is a happy song that has a house beat fused with African Jazz beats. It was inspired by Bongo Maffin.” Vimbai was confident with her record which she sees competing on the international level. “There are few Zimbabwean artists who have been nominated for Channel O awards. I also want to make sure that I compete on that platform. I want to release international standard material that would be considered.”

The single was produced by Riverb 7, a local house producer. It comes with a computerised instrumental backing as she was not working with a live band. The song would be available for down loading from her website, www.vimbaimutinhiri.com beginning Monday. She will be a guest on Tonderai Katsande’s slot on Power FM called an Hour with a Celebrity where the single would be played for the first time to the nation.

Vimbai is currently in the process of finalising a collaboration single with Ethiopian BBA Housemate Hanni which would be released in the next couple of weeks. Over the months she has been busy involving herself in charity work, manufacturing and shooting a television reality show. While the model’s plate is full, most of her projects are coming to fruition.

Her perfume which is currently being mixed in South Africa would be ready for distribution sometime this month. “My perfume is called Royale and it will be distributed from Plaza Pharmacy outlets and Image Pharmacy Borrowdale. Samples have arrived and I am excited about it.” Vimbai is happy with her debut television reality show. “The reality show is ready for release.

It would be released on my website on Monday. It will revolve mostly on Royale perfume and my other activities.” Vimbai was engaged in charity work at an orphanage in Odzi, near Mutare. She donated T-shirts and hosted a fundraising party with a charity organisation from Africa University. She launched a charity drive entitled “The Zimbabwean Dream Campaign” at Mathew Rusike Children’s home in Epworth Harare in August with part of the money she received from President Robert Mugabe.

Vimbai said the campaign was a charity drive created by the young people of Zimbabwe, and designed for the young people of Zimbabwe. She used part of the money she received from Mugabe to purchase toys, books and sporting equipment to be donated to the children. Vimbai was given $10 000 by the President at a function where Wendall Parson, co-winner of this year’s Big Brother and super athlete Steven Muzhingi received $50 000 each.

“I used part of the money I was given by the President because I needed to start acting. The President encouraged us to keep dreaming so I want to share the dream.” Vimbai said she wanted to go around the country with her campaign. “I want to cover one city in a month with my campaign. The broader concept is to empower young people to dream in Zimbabwe. We want to realise that in Zimbabwe there are so many ways to start a career than academics. There is sport, music and other areas that one can prosper in, that’s only if allowed to dream,” she said.
