Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, Rumbidzai Mudzengerere, is set to raise Zimbabwe's flag high when she takes part in the Miss Tourism Queen scheduled for China next month. The 21-year-old model, who is making her last-minute preparations for her trip to the Asian country, where she will take part in the beauty pageant to be held on
December 28, hopes to continue from where the reigning Miss Zimbabwe - Malaika Mushandu - left off.
"I have always admired Malaika and it is our passion for modelling that has taken us this far. "When Malaika was taking part in the Miss World pageant, I prayed throughout the event because I knew she had what it takes to win. She went the extra mile.
"I am happy with what she did and I hope that I will be able to fulfil our dream and bring the crown home," she said during Malaika's welcoming Press briefing held at the Rainbow Towers last week. Malaika came ninth at the Miss World beauty pageant, becoming the second Zimbabwean model to achieve such a feat after Angeline Musasiwa, who came fourth at the 1994 Miss World grand finale. The vivacious and easy-going model made no secret that she was eyeing the crown like a hawk.
"I have been waiting for this pageant and I can't wait to meet up with other models so that I can weigh myself," she said. Rumbi, however, conceded that although she has received overwhelming support from the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, before and during her reign, she also had to contend with pressure from fans and family who want her to win things. "It is not going to be easy, but I am counting on the support of all of you to put Zimbabwe on the map," she added. The pageant, initially scheduled for November 9, was moved to December 28, giving Rumbidzai more time to spruce up on her grooming, deportment and wardrobe.
Luckily for Rumbie, she will also get additional tips from Malaika, her long-time friend, who despite her short stint in modelling, made Zimbabweans extremely proud by her ingenuity and confidence on the ramp.
Standing at 1,70 metres with a waistline of 28 inches and a hip size of 94 inches, Rumbidzai easily stands out as a promising model. Miss Rue, as she is affectionately known by her fans, finished her studies at the Women's University in Africa in June this year. (Herald)
