New Miss Harare Emily Tatanga Kachote, 22 says she will never sleep with rich men for a leek lifestyle describing the practice as cheap. She however said it was difficult to make a living as a model in Zimbabwe. “Models living in Zimbabwe do not earn much. There are no jobs for them and those that are available pay so little. Big companies pay models $100 or $50 for an appearance on an advert and some do not pay. It is difficult to survive as a model.”

“Models and women in general should strive to provide for themselves the lovely things they desire. They should be empowered to know that men would respect them when they can look after themselves. Sometimes models cheapen themselves by getting into relationships for money.” She has not met the right guy yet but says respect is a major attribute of a potential suitor. Like most models she is fashion conscious.

Beauty queens to get ZTA jobs

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority is ready to give jobs to the 2011 Miss Zimbabwe winners in the event that they fail to get something worthwhile to do. All the four queens - Miss Zimbabwe Malaika Mashandu, Miss Tourism Rumbidzai Mudzengerere, Miss Universe Lisa Morgan and Miss Talent Nadia Gori have not yet secured any form of employment, a few weeks before their term of office comes to an end.

Being a national beauty queen gives one a competitive edge, and more often than not, opens doors for opportunities, locally or internationally.

Malaika heads for Miss Top Model of the World

Reigning Miss Zimbabwe, Malaika Mushandu is set to represent the country at this year’s Miss Top Model of the World beauty pageant which will be held in Dortmund, Germany, on March 10.

Miss Zimbabwe SA crowned

Miss Zimbabwe-SA, Vimbai Sithole with her two princesses. 

Vimbai Sithole, a Public Relations Student at the University of South Africa, is this year’s winner of the Miss Zimbabwe-SA pageant. The 21-year-old beat 11 other contestants to land the crown and its R2 500 first prize at a glittering ceremony at the City Hall here. 18-year-old Lisa Skhosana and Samantha Kudzanai Nyampanda, 20, were voted the first and second princesses respectively.

Miss Tourism to represent Zimbabwe

Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, Rumbidzai Mudzengerere, and Miss Bulawayo/Miss Talent Zimbabwe, Nadia Gori, will both leave for China and Malaysia on December 9 where they will represent the country at two international pageants. Mudzengerere will participate at the Miss Tourism Queen International pageant to be held in China on December 27 while Gori will take part at the Miss Tourism International beauty pageant to be held in Malaysia on New Year’s Eve.

Zimbabwean makes it to top 8 in Miss Earth Peageant

Thandi Muringa (23), Zimbabwe’s representative to Miss Earth 2011, smashed into the top 8 finalists of the Miss Earth pageant which was held in Manilla in the Philippines on December 3, 2011. Miss Earth is the third largest international pageant in the world in terms of contestants after Miss World and Miss Universe.

Miss Harare Preps on

Preparations for this year's edition of the prestigious Miss Harare beauty pageant are at an advanced stage with the organisers promising a red carpet event. Running under the theme "I am Zimbabwean", the final showdown has been set for December 23, at the 7Arts Theatre in Avondale. The scouting phase which saw two rounds of auditions has been completed with 30 beauties making it into camp after going through an intense selection process.

Zimbabwean Monalisa Moyo Wins Miss Face of Africa Title

Zimbabwean 18 year old Monalisa Moyo won Miss Face of Africa UK 2011. Sonia Bott 21 from Zimbabwe was crowned First Princess and Shalom Kubwalo 24 from Malawi came as as Second Princess. The event took place at Nottingham Arts Theatre. 

Rumbi hopes to emulate Malaika

Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, Rumbidzai Mudzengerere, is set to raise Zimbabwe's flag high when she takes part in the Miss Tourism Queen scheduled for China next month. The 21-year-old model, who is making her last-minute preparations for her trip to the Asian country, where she will take part in the beauty pageant to be held on

December 28, hopes to continue from where the reigning Miss Zimbabwe - Malaika Mushandu - left off.

"I have always admired Malaika and it is our passion for modelling that has taken us this far. "When Malaika was taking part in the Miss World pageant, I prayed throughout the event because I knew she had what it takes to win. She went the extra mile.

All set for Miss Chi-Town

Former Beauty Queen Brita with the contestants

ALL is set for the Miss Chitungwiza beauty contest to be held at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex on Saturday. A bevy of close to 17 models will take to the ramp and show the stuff they are made of. The modelling showcase - that was last held three years ago - is aimed at promoting models from the town.

Former Miss Zimbabwe Brita Masalethulini, who was the reigning national queen in 1999 before winning the Miss Malaika crown in 2001, will grace the event.

Search for Miss Harare starts this weekend

Organisers of the Miss Harare pageant are calling all beauties interested in modelling to attend auditions which will be held on Saturday afternoon at the National Art Gallery in Harare. Debra Chidavaenzi, one of the organisers, said 25 contestants would be selected at the auditions to compete for the Miss Harare crown.

Miss South Africa crowned Miss World Africa Continent

OVERJOYED Miss SA Bokang Montjane achieved what she set out to do when she was crowned Miss World Africa Continent on Sunday. "When I went there I wanted my 10th title and I got it. Being crowned the top African girl made me so proud. I am very passionate about my continent." During the coronation ball the judges select Miss World queens for different continents.

Montjane, 25, was crowned Miss World Africa, beating contestants from Botswana, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Miss Zimbabwe also beat the others to make the Top 15 in the Miss World contest, along with Bokang. The Miss World pageant, which was held in London on Sunday was Montjane's fourth international pageant.

Zimbabwe's Lisa Morgan crowned Miss Expressive

Reigning Miss Universe Zimbabwe, Lisa Morgan, was on Sunday evening crowned Miss Expressive at the Miss International beauty pageant held in Chengdu, China. Miss Ecuador, Maria Fernanda Cornejo, was crowned Miss International and Miss Statue 2011 during the annual event. Miss Venezuela, Jessica Barboza, was crowned 1st princess while Miss Mongolia, Tugsuu Idersaikhan, was crowned 2nd princess. Miss Panama, Keity Mendieta Britton and Miss Puerto Rico, Desiree Del Rio De Jesus also made it to the top five.

Miss Zimbabwe makes top 15 at Miss World Finals

Miss Zimbabwe, Malaika Mushandu made it into the top 15 of the Miss World contest before bowing out when the top 7 were announced. Congrats for achieving this feat.

Miss Zim Malaika on the edge as Miss World starts

The glitz and glamour of Miss World returns to its British home to celebrate the global beauty contest’s 60th birthday on Sunday, with a billion viewers expected across the planet. A record 122 beauty queens from Albania to Zimbabwe take part in the pageant, which will be broadcast live to more than 150 countries.

The contestants have spent the past two weeks on a whirlwind tour of Britain, whipping up excitement ahead of the final, which takes place from 1700 GMT till 1900 GMT Sunday at the sold-out Earls Court Two venue in west London. While beauty has always been at the heart of the event, brains, skills and good causes play a major role.

Lisa ready to take on the world

Zimbabwe's representative to the Miss International Beauty Pageant Lisa Morgan says she has fully prepared for the contest that is expected to be held in China next week. In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Lisa said she has been working hard on grooming, deportment, in addition to taking part in other pre-judging contests.

Being an architect, Lisa revealed that she has also been devoting her time to sightseeing and enjoying the beauty of Chinese architecture. "I have been visiting a lot of places in Chengdu from the time I got here. I have also been giving myself time to marvel at Chinese architecture and being an architect myself, I admire other people's creations," she said via email.

Miss Zimbabwe making giant strides at Miss World

Malaika Mushandu Zimbabwe's representative at Miss World finals made it into the top 20 finalists in the Top Model Category of the coveted competition. Malaika competed against an impressive field of 121 other leggy models and made it into the top 20. 

Mushandu and Miss Kenya, Catherine Anyango, were the only two Africans among the finalists. Top Model is one of six pre-final events. The 122 models will also take part in five other contests ­ Miss Beach Beauty, Beauty With A Purpose, Fitness, Talent and Traditional Dance - before the finals at Earls Court in London on November 6. We at Zimbeatnews wishes Malaika all the best and believe she can make history for Zimbabwe.

Former Miss Zimbabwe Brita Masalethulini Bares her Soul

Former Miss Malaika Brita Masalethulini says her weight ballooned when she gave birth to her two children. Masalethulini means one which remains in dust but former Miss Malaika, Brita, has defied the nomenclature to set herself on a successful business path. Tall, shapely and exquisite, Masalethulini wowed crowds at pageants back in 1999 and became a household name.

Miss World gets tough

Miss Zimbabwe, Malaika Mushandu, is among 122 contestants from around the world taking part at the Miss World pageant, which celebrates its 60th birthday this year. This means that Malaika (21) will have to put her shoulders to the wheel to pull it through to the finals of the competition where the bar has been raised high.

Interestingly, according to figures released on the Miss World website, over half the Miss World 2011 participants are in full time education studying for a degree, one in four are already graduates and over half speak three of more languages.
