Reigning Miss Universe Zimbabwe, Lisa Morgan, was on Sunday evening crowned Miss Expressive at the Miss International beauty pageant held in Chengdu, China. Miss Ecuador, Maria Fernanda Cornejo, was crowned Miss International and Miss Statue 2011 during the annual event. Miss Venezuela, Jessica Barboza, was crowned 1st princess while Miss Mongolia, Tugsuu Idersaikhan, was crowned 2nd princess. Miss Panama, Keity Mendieta Britton and Miss Puerto Rico, Desiree Del Rio De Jesus also made it to the top five.
Besides being crowned Miss Expressive, Morgan was also given an Ambassador of Beauty award.
Morgan said she tried her best at the pageant. “I am excited to have been crowned Miss Expressive as this was my first international pageant. “I am proud that I managed to get something for my country as the Miss Expressive title was given to someone who managed to express herself and market her country well,” she said.
She further thanked the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) for grooming her well. “My grooming from ZTA is paying off because I clinched a title by using the notes I got from ZTA as I managed to play my ambassadorial role effectively,” she said. She said she would return to Zimbabwe next week as the winners had been asked to stay in China for another week.
This year’s Miss International pageant was focused on raising funds to support the victims of the earthquake that struck Japan. Numerous parties, support activities, grand parades and other events were held to raise funds. Morgan contributed by raising $5 000 from a portrait picture showing happy children from Zimbabwe.
