Macheso, Peter Moyo and Jah Prayzah |
It will definitely be fireworks when the newly crowned "Igwe", Peter Moyo, takes on sungura maestro Alick "Cheso Power" Macheso in what is promising to be the biggest gig this festive season. Showgoers will be in for a treat in the much-anticipated "Cheso/Dhewa" show, which takes the form of an epic battle featuring rising star Jah Prayzah. Jah Prayzah produces jazzed up urban grooves fused with mbira. The young artiste is behind the hit song "Sungano" and this year released his third studio album "Ngwarira Kuparara", which carries the songs "Msango", "Chibvumirano", "Maria", "Chii?" "Daka" and the title track "Ngwarira".
The show at Pamuzinda is symbolic in a big way as this will be the very first time Peter shares the stage with his father's "rival". During Tongai's time there was a purported beef between him and Alick "Razor Wire" Macheso. There would always be some story making the rounds be it of snatching a girlfriend, a band member or either artiste imitating the other's song. The rumour mill was always in over- drive but despite that promoters always roped in both Alick and Tongai. But the two rose above the petty allegations and watered down the speculation by delivering splendid shows.
Fans will recall Macheso speaking of devastation upon Tongai Moyo's death. Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions - the promotions company behind the gig - worked closely with Dhewa and is on record as pledging to support Peter. "You might recall me vowing to support Peter given that he follows in his father's footsteps. "The young man is indeed taking after his father. Peter is proving to be an artiste of note, conducting himself in a professional manner. So I am sticking to my word," said Chimbodza. Peter, the new Utakataka Express frontman, has started off in brilliant form proving his mettle and settling well at the helm of the band.
He wowed fans at his debut show in Harare and ever since he has been on top of his game. "Extrabasso", as Macheso is known among a host of other aliases, is a tried and tested performer of repute hence having being described as the only real competition to Peter's father. Macheso does wonders with the bass guitar and he has an endless selection of party songs to choose from. Adding that to his refreshing dances such as the latest "Zora Butter" routine when on stage the man becomes a magician wowing the crowds with his every move. Herald
