Peter Moyo out to prove a point

Peter Moyo

MAN of the moment Peter "Dhewa" Moyo - who is continuing with his father's legacy - will start his 2012 itinerary with a maiden performance at City Sports Bar in Harare tonight. Ironically, Peter's gig reminds many of his late father Tongai Moyo's abortive bid to perform at the same joint last year owing to his deteriorating health.
Peter, however, will be out to whet the appetites of the legion of Utakataka Express fans who were left unsated expecting that their darling performer would come and oblige them with an act at the joint. Ironically, the late "Muchina Muhombe" was one of the first artistes to mark the official opening of the venue a few years ago and was also a close associate of the owner Biggie Chinoperekwei. "We were friends with his father and we want to extend the same hand to him. "We are elated to be hosting his first show this year," Chinoperekwei said.

Peter is expected to prove that in 2012 he can stand the heat on the music scene dominated by a legion of stars that include Alick Macheso, Sulumane Chimbetu, Freddy "Kapfupi" Manjalima and Oliver Mtukudzi, all who have proved to be his mentors one way or the other. He is also faced with the onus of proving to all and sundry that he can compose and release his own songs that can transform him into a veritable artiste who doesn't have to rely on his late father's songs.
