THE much hyped House of Gushungo clothing line designs are created in Singapore and Allan Mapisa the marketing manager manufactured in China. The marketing manager, Allan Mapisa said the fashion house did not have a factory in Zimbabwe because “ the House of Gushungo wants to maintain quality and guard against imitations.” Mapisa said a local factory would compromise on quality.
The Gushungo collection at the moment is made up of t-shirts, golf shirts, man’s shirts, jackets and tracksuits. Though the options are limited for the ladies and for those under the age of 12, Mapisa says they shall be increasing their collection in the near future.It is not clear exactly how the fashion house is going in terms of sales. But judging by the fact that House of Gu, business might be good. The fashion label has a strong presence at most Zanu PF gatherings generating ready cash from a captive market.
A statement from the company said last year : “The newly formed House of Gushungo clothing stable has introduced a new clothing line from the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe’s signature. ‘The clothing stable is set to redefine the country’s fashion industry which is mostly dominated by foreign clothing labels. ‘The contemporary line appeals to today’s modern men and women, offering style, comfort and a splash of attitude.’ (NewsDzezimbabwe)
