Stunner, Ex-Q date Australia

Urban grooves heavyweights, Stunner and Ex Q are set to give Australians a dose of serious music with performances in Melbourne and Sydney. The two are leaving tomorrow for Australia without their respective bands. They will perform on backtracks. The duo was invited by Zimbabwean promoters based in Australia. “The organisers once promoted Oliver Mtukudzi’s show and we are excited to perform in Australia. We are living on Wednesday,” said Stunner.

The Godo hitmaker is fresh from another international tour of the United Kingdom. He wooed fans in Birmingham, Leicester, London and other two cities. He performed with the popular star, Knox, during his gigs. Stunner is working on his sixth album, Ndauraya Munhu. He explained that he is killing musicians through outclassing them with his unmatched competencies in the industry.

He is currently working on videos for his new album. “I have come to a stage where I want to offer something new. I have been in the music industry for the past 10 years, offering mainly audios but now I want to offer visuals so that people can understand my music. I urge all artists to do visuals because it is high time that our music is understood.”

Stunner said his musical lyrics were often misunderstood but he reasoned that people can understand him better with well-put visuals. A video from the song Sele from his upcoming album is already on YouTube. It was shot in England. The musician acquired a badboy image through some controversial issues including the release of a sex tape of him and his girlfriend, Pokelo Nare.

“I would not regret being with my girlfriend but I regret that there are other people that want to focus on my personal life and destroy my professional life.” He said he is happily in love with Pokelo and is still being supported by his sponsors contrary to reports of desertion. “I am still with all my sponsors; they did not dump me like what people allege. I am a hard worker and people want to mix my professional life with personal life.”

The Daily News bumped into Stunner at the National Arts Merits Award (Nama)ceremony looking stunning in a clean-cut suit, bow tie complete with glittering studs to give him the Diddy look. However, his popular song Godo nominated in the outstanding music category together with Charles Charamba’s Nyika Zimbabwe and Sebastian Magacha’s Bhosvo, did not take the award.

Nyika Zimbabwe won and Stunner said afterwards he had no comment. He has engaged a professional management team comprising a manager only identified as Sarah and Vimbainashe Mukandiona who accompanied him to Nama on Saturday. The striking musician once explained to a local news website that music has now virtually become his lifestyle, because he works for up to 16 hours a day to perfect his tunes.

Born Desmond Chideme on May 11, 1980, Stunner started his music career as a backing vocalist for other urban grooves artistes like Shame and Nathan, Roy and Royce and Decibel. In 2002, he released his first single, Rudo Rwemari, which is widely regarded as one of the classics of the urban grooves music genre.

Besides being a musician, Stunner is also a designer and has established Exquisite Wear designer label, which is part of Tazoita Cash Records, together with Ex-Q. However, it would be the first time for Ex-Q to perform on an international platform. He said he is more than ready for the task. The urban grooves pioneer is currently riding high with a single Atezvara Vakaramba which has been perched on the top position on radio hit lists since its release.

Like Stunner, Ex-Q is currently working on his sixth album. “This album has a different feel from my previous albums. I am currently in the studio perfecting it. I worked with different producers, Xtol studios, Mc Dee and Russo and I also did a song with Dr Clarence.”

Since it would be his maiden tour, he intends to execute his earlier hits. “I will first perform my old songs and then top up with the new ones. I promise a great show.” (DailyNews)
