Justin Bieber |
Canadian pop star Justin Bieber started a Twitter explosion among his 19 million followers this week, with the release of his latest tune ‘Boyfriend’. And now in the US the track is off to what could be a record-breaking sales and radio start for the 18-year-old teen idol.
According to Billboard, the tune is set to be his highest-ranking song to date on the Billboard Hot 100 chart – which plots radio airplay, sales, and streaming data in the US. Boyfriend is the first single from his upcoming third studio album Believe.
According to the report, industry sources suggest Boyfriend may sell around 400 000 downloads by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, April 1. The song currently holds the number one spot in the iTunes singles chart in 31 countries, according to a Twitter update from Bieber on Wednesday.
Bieber's best sales week to date, according to Billboard, is 199 999 downloads for his single Never Say Never last year. If things go well for the teen heartthrob, the track could earn the best sales week of the year for a single, surpassing American pop star Katy Perry's "Part of Me" last month, with 411 000 downloads.
His highest-charting tune on the Hot 100 to date is Baby, which debuted and peaked at number five in February 2010.
