Peter Moyo and Utakataka Express |
Chipaz Promotions will this Friday honour Peter Moyo for his resilience and showmanship at a gig scheduled for Plaza de Castilla in Greencroft. According to Partson Chimbodza, who is known in show business as Chipaz, the gig is in fulfilment of his pledge he made when Peter’s father Tongai Moyo succumbed to cancer last year.
“The gig is in honour of the youngster who I believe has a bright future ahead and just like I promised at the funeral in Sesombe Village I am impressed by Peter’s resilience and showmanship,” Chipaz said. He said the Young Igwee heeded his advice and that he felt obliged to support him in every way possible.
“For those who listened to my speech at the funeral I pointed out that Peter should remain level headed and he is doing that. I was one of those people who enjoyed the gala and I believe he put up a sterling performance for all to see. He is now his own man,” Chipaz said.
Contacted for comment, Peter said he was humbled by the gesture from Chipaz. “I think Chipaz is one of the few guys who promised to support and is doing exactly that. He has been my pillar of strength and I wouldn’t want to disappoint him or my fans. From the outset he has been very supportive of the group and even if we don’t say it in public but in our hearts we know how much he has helped us to sail through,” he said.
The Young Igwee now leads a formidable band comprising youthful members almost of the same age. At the 21st February Movement Gala, the Utakataka Express stood out with their flawless act that delighted the audience. Even after his show, fans gave the Young Igwee a rapturous applause while others mobbed him. In an interview backstage, Alick Macheso who has become a father figure to Young Igwee also acknowledged that the Kwekwe-based Utakataka Express had a bright future. (Herald)
