Peter, Tryson out of legends’ shadows

Tryson Chimbetu and Peter Moyo
Dynamite comes in small packages and this adage will be proven right when young musicians Peter Moyo and Tryson Chimbetu go it alone without riding on the coat-tails of music legends Oliver Mtukudzi and Alick Macheso. The duo has been curtain-raising for the big artistes but this time around they decided to stand on their own when they perform at the newly-refurbished Holly’s Hotel on March 10.

Both have been enjoying a fine run in their music careers with Tryson launching his third album, “Nguva YaChimbetu”, at Super Label in Harare last week. The Marxist Brothers frontman has also been doing well with his album, “Bvamrod”, that was well received last year.
Those who have watched the national music galas will testify that “Dr Nero Junior” knows how to keep revellers on their feet and this is exactly what they should expect at the gig at Holly’s Hotel on Saturday. Some of the new songs expected from the dendera crooner include “Mapako”, “Ambi” and “SMS”. Peter, on the other hand, appears to be unfazed by the loss of key band members and his shows always attract large crowds.

Moyo or simply “The Young Igwe” has been polishing up his musical act through live shows and although he is yet to release an album, he has been very impressive with renditions of his late father’s songs. The strength of the two sons of late music legends will surely be under scrutiny, as some might think that they have been basking in the glow of the giants.
