Sulumani and Tuku |
Scores of music loving fans are in for a fun-filled weekend in Masvingo as the Grand dad of music, Oliver Mtukudzi and emerging sungura star, Suluman Chimbetu are set to woe audiences at Mucheke stadium tonight. Gospel music followers will have their day at the same venue on Saturday when the Charamba family, the duo of Charles and Olivia perform alongside Blessing Shumba.
Mtukudzi and Suluman are set to awaken the sleepy city of Masvingo into life when they host the province’s first big showcase of the new year. The show is part of a fund-raising event for newly formed Division One soccer side Setheo United that has big dreams to win the Eastern Region division one championship and get promotion into the elite Premiership league where the province has no team in it following the relegation of Masvingo United last year.
Concert promoter, Taurai Bucho Mudzviti said all was set for the show. “All is set for the concert and we have made all necessary preparations and arrangements for the big showcase. “Tuku and Suluman will surely rock music fans here at Mucheke Stadium and we are sure that the stadium will be full to capacity,” said Bucho. Gospel music enthusiasts will not be left out as they are equally up to some fine entertaining moments as the following day the Charambas and Shumba take over the stage.
The three gospel music greats will keep their followers on toes the whole afternoon when they perform at a peace praying gathering organised by the Council of Churches were Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and President Robert Mugabe have been invited although their attendance has not been confirmed.
“The Charambas will be playing at the stadium together with the gospel musician of the moment, Shumba. “This will be a peace praying gathering lasting the whole day and we expect the two leaders of the country to be there,” said an organiser from the Council of Churches.
