South African music sensation Zahara is topping the list of the South African Music Awards nominees. The vivacious vocalist was nominated in seven categories of the awards for her album Loliwe. Her nominations include, among others, best newcomer, album of the year and best female artist of the year.
"I cannot believe that in six months in this industry I have (received) eleven music award nominations. "I am definitely sure that I will come back with four awards at Sun City. I do not know what to say about this. I am really proud of myself and the team," an excited Zahara said. Zahara's producer Robbie Malinga said: "This is great for us, and really shows that we have worked hard. We knew she had talent, but you can never be (too) sure until the people say so."
TS Records co-owner Thembinkosi Nciza said:"It simply shows that if you give the public good music, they respond positively." Zahara is followed closely by the dance trio Mi Casa, which got five nominations. The biggest surprise is probably newcomers Soul-House trio and Zulu rapper Zakwe, who also each reveived five nominations. Lira has been nominated in the best producer category for her album.
Newcomer Nomhle Nongogo from Eastern Cape got two nominations, and Pastor Solly Mahlangu walked away with three nominations. The Sama Awards take place on April 29 and 30 at Sun City in North West.
