Gospel music fans in Masvingo are in for a treat this Saturday when two of the countries enterprising acts, Fishers and Men of and, Blessing Shumba share the stage at Mucheke Stadium. Fishers of Men led by, the couple Pastor Charles and Olivia Charamba will meet Nama- award winner Shumba at a concert organised by the Methodist Church of Zimbabwe.
The church would like to raise funds for food aid for victims of the current drought that has rued several villagers in Masvingo Province. Scores of families in the province’s villages are suffering from the effects of a nagging draught following a bad agricultural season due to poor rains.
The drought comes at a time the former ruling party Zanu PF’s Masvingo governor, Titus Maluleke has banned Non-Governmental Organisations dealing with humanitarian aid accusing them of aiding the mainstream MDC.
Blessmore from the Methodist Church told the Daily News that they invited the Charambas and Shumba because of their dominance of gospel music.“This Saturday we have organised a day to cherish for our gospel music enthusiasts,” said Blessmore.
Chinhara, one of the concert’s organisers said the Church organised the show as part of their social responsibility. He said the Church was touched by the large number of villagers in the rural areas who are in need of food aid.
“Due to the current drought spell we realised and we were touched by the growing number of people suffering from food deficit. So as part of our social responsibility we have organised this show to fund-raise and channel the proceeds to villagers who need food,” he said.
Rev Chinhara called on the people of Masvingo to come in their numbers to support noble cause. “We call on locals to come and support us and enjoy the music concert as we seek to help the suffering souls in areas like Gutu, Zimuto, Chivi and Zaka where thousands face starvation,” said Rev Chinhara.
He said besides these initiatives, the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe has been doing a lot to help different communities in the country. The church runs several Mission schools and hospitals in the country, together with orphanages as part of their social responsibilities. Newsday
